Part of the Arab Film and Media Institute’s Palestinian Voices program.
In 1948, Palestinian villages and society were systematically destroyed and taken over by paramilitary forces who later formed the Israeli army. At least 15,000 people were massacred and over 750,000 were violently displaced. The events of the Nakba in 1948 and the attempted uprooting of Palestinian society reverberated and continue to resonate across the Arab world. The "Soumoud" or steadfastness of Palestinians then as now, inspiring generation upon generation of artists, activists and social movements. We curated a series of films that remember the Nakba through the voices of those who survived it, as well as of those who continue to feel its effects to this day.
The films are available through Palestinian Voices until May 22nd.
