The lemon tree has become a symbol of the Palestinian struggle against the Israeli occupation mechanisms, like the cactus and the olive, an image charged with the national political struggle. The baqja, “keffiyeh,” is the bag of personal belongings carried by Nakba refugees. Carrying lemons inside Al-Baqja echoes the survivors of the Nakba, recalling the forced exodus in 1948 from Jerusalem to Ramallah.
