A program of Alsharif’s tirelessly original, dissident short works. Featuring Turkish Delight, which overlays ambient noise and recipe recitals over images of empty homes in Amman, Jordan; We Began by Measuring Distances, an oblique study in the political implications of measurement and the limitations of the audio-visual arts in expressing historical travesty; Home Movies Gaza, a testament to everyday living and everyday deprivation in the Gaza Strip; O, Persecuted, an avant-garde “performance” of the restoration of Kassem Hawai’s 1974 Palestinian militant film Our Small Houses; and Everywhere Was the Same, in which discordant subtitle narratives and slideshow images offer clashing, juxtaposed narratives of massacre and utopia.
